Barter, without the double coincidence of wants.

A concept for decentralized, trustless peer-to-peer barter infrastructure on blockchain, with a token model, escrow design, and governance structure fully specified and demonstrated through an interactive simulation. This paper presents the design as a concept, not as deployed infrastructure.

The double coincidence of wants — both sides of a trade needing exactly what the other has, at the same time — has kept barter economies from scaling past informal, local exchange. No trustless infrastructure exists today for multi-party barter, where value can flow through a chain of matched wants rather than a single direct swap.

Bartchain is designed as decentralized peer-to-peer barter infrastructure: an AI matching engine finds multi-party trade chains, a native token and escrow mechanism settle value gaps without a cash intermediary, and DAO governance plus a reputation system keep the network trustworthy without a central operator.

  • AI barter matching — planned as a matching engine that finds chains of trades satisfying multiple parties' wants at once, not just direct one-to-one swaps.
  • Transaction escrow and a BART token — planned as the settlement layer that lets a trade chain close without needing simultaneous physical exchange.
  • DAO governance and a reputation/rating system — planned as the trust layer replacing a central marketplace operator.
  • A cross-chain bridge — planned to let barter value move between blockchain ecosystems rather than being locked to one chain.

An interactive flow-engine simulation already demonstrates the intended trading experience — barter, buy, sell, lend, and return flows, BART↔USDT conversion display, and a batch-transaction demo mode. What's planned next is turning that simulation into deployed infrastructure:

  • Smart contracts for escrow, the BART token, and DAO governance — none are deployed today; the current build is a front-end simulation.
  • Wallet connectivity (e.g. MetaMask) and real on-chain settlement.
  • A live matching algorithm running against real listed items rather than a sample catalog.
  • User accounts, a backend, and a persistent reputation ledger.
  • Communities exploring barter economies at scale.
  • P2P marketplaces looking for trustless multi-party settlement.
  • Web3 builders evaluating a barter-specific chain design.

Planned deployment: blockchain / Web3, with a browser-based front end for discovery and simulation. Stage: concept — the token economics, escrow design, and governance model are fully specified and demonstrated through an interactive simulation; no smart contract is deployed yet.
